Welcome to the High-Performance Computing Laboratory
The HPSC Laboratory is the research center for High Performance Scientific Computing at the University of Napoli “Parthenope”. Established within the Department of Science and Technology, the laboratory operates at the frontier where applied mathematics, computer science, and high-performance computing converge.
Our mission is to understand, model, and compute complex phenomena. Whether dealing with nonlinear systems of partial differential equations, large-scale data fitting problems, GPU-accelerated algorithms, or atmospheric forecasting models, we combine mathematical rigor with scalable computational infrastructures. The laboratory develops both theoretical foundations and operational technologies, ensuring that advanced models can effectively run on modern heterogeneous architectures — from clusters and GPUs to distributed and cloud environments.
At HPSC, computation is not merely a tool; it is a scientific language. We investigate numerical methods for elliptic and parabolic problems, inverse problems, integro-differential equations, and large-scale interpolation techniques. At the same time, we design middleware systems for GPU virtualization and remote acceleration, enabling secure and efficient access to high-performance resources even in distributed and low-power contexts. This dual perspective — mathematical depth and infrastructural innovation — defines the identity of the laboratory.
A major area of application is environmental and atmospheric science. The laboratory contributes to advanced computational models for air quality assessment and meteorological forecasting, integrating data analysis techniques with physics-based simulations. These activities reflect a broader vision: bridging data-driven approaches with scientific modeling to address real-world challenges.
Under the leadership of Professor Raffaele Montella, Director, and Professor Livia Marcellino, Deputy Director, the HPSC Laboratory promotes an integrated approach to scientific computing.
